Twisters

We haven’t done a movie night-themed dinner as we were so busy during October and November. Additionally, there wasn’t a new movie that came out of any streaming services. Finally, the new movie Twisters became available on Peacock. We didn’t make the girls watch the previous Twister movie like we usually do when there is a sequel. Even though this one wasn’t a sequel to the original. It only mentioned the tornado tool, Dorothy, at the beginning of the movie with nothing else carrying over. Overall, the movie was good. The girls stayed interested (maybe because it had Glenn Powell in it?) and it had some action to it.

This themed dinner was fun, and I went all Twister out. For the main dinner, we made Twister hotdogs. It was super easy and consisted of hotdogs and canned crescent rolls. Basically, the hot dogs are cut in a corkscrew and placed in a skewer. Then the crescent rolls are wrapped into where the hotdog was cut. These are then cooked in the oven, and you have a Twister hotdog.

To go along with these hotdogs, we made Twister potatoes. Tyler did most of the work on these, but again the premise is to cut them up into a corkscrew and then place them into a skewer to cook. We seasoned them with garlic salt, which we like to use, and baked them in the air fryer. The girls loved these and we even have incorporated them into some dinner meals after this theme!

For the drink, we found a recipe for a Tropical Twister. The recipe contained Sprite, Pineapple Juice, Fruit juice, and coconut rum, which was also blended. We didn't have coconut rum in the house, so we used dark rum we already had and we didn't want to blend the drink. The switch in rum made the drink not turn out how it was supposed to look. Regardless of the rum color, the drink colors did separate and was tasty! Since the mocktail version had no alcohol in it, the girls turned out cool!

I had this brilliant idea for our dessert, but our first attempt did not turn out right, so we had to pivot a little. I knew after looking at some Pinterest ideas, that I was going to use waffle cones as they are perfect for a tornado twister. For the original idea, I tried to bake the cupcake batter into the waffle cones. But due to their shape, it was hard to keep them upright, so I had to lay them on the side. Then while baking, the cupcake batter was seeping out of the waffles as well as making the waffles more flat on the side lying down. So we pivoted to still baking cupcakes as normal to then stuffing the cones with the cupcakes. This didn't work either as I still had the problem of trying to keep them standing upright. So I then landed on just sticking a waffle cone "twister" into the cupcake. We decorated the cone with icing to look like a twister as well as decorating the cupcake top to look like land. They turned out a little sloppy but still looked like a twister coming out of the ground. Kyrie also made a cow out of some leftover cupcakes to make it look like it got swept up into the twister!

Thanks for reading along on this themed dinner! We throughly enjoyed this one and had fun with our attempts at the dessert! Please comment below what you thought.
