During the summer, the girls go to a summer camp, mostly so that they are not bored while I am working from home. At camp they sometimes go on field trips to see a movie. This summer, each girl actually saw a different new summer movie, so I told them they can come up with ideas for the movie they saw for a theme night dinner when it became available for streaming. Kyrie's movie was the new live action Little Mermaid. It was similar to the cartoon movie, and it it was still very good. We loved all the cast and especially Halle Bailey and Melissa McCarthy, who played Ariel and Ursula respectively!

Kyrie came up with some "crab" sandwiches to represent another favorite character, Sebastian. We got croissants and then added our choice of meat and cheese. Then she crafted some eyeballs out of toothpicks and googly eyes. They got placed on our sandwiches to make it look like a crab. I thought it was super cute and I always enjoy a good sandwich, especially on a croissant.
In some of our old themes, we did quite a bit of watermelon carvings. We brought that back and Tyler carved a clam out of a watermelon. Plus, it becomes an additional side to our meal and who doesn't like watermelon! We did also do some veggies and ranch dip to complete the whole meal.

This drink was all Kyrie and was definitely kid approved! It was a combination of Blue Hawaiian Punch, Sprite, Pineapple Juice, and rum (for the adults). Her drink also consisted of nerds to be at the bottom of the “ocean” and Swedish Fish Gummy Friends to float throughout the drink. We did find these fun mini fish bowls at the dollar store for the drinks to be served in. Lots of sugar in this drink, but it fit went well for an ocean theme drink!

For the dessert, Kyrie made vanilla cupcakes that she dyed an ocean blue color. She also made a vanilla buttercream, also dyed to an ocean blue. And then to top it off with more Swedish Fish. The cupcake was again kid approved and the cupcakes themselves turned out yummy! Super simple but allowed Kyrie to be creative with her ideas.

I really like when the girls takes the reins on doing these theme dinner themselves (with only a little help from mom and dad). Hope you enjoyed it along with the new Little Mermaid movie.
