I really loved reading mystery stories when growing up, especially Sherlock Holmes. It was perfect when Netflix released the Enola Holmes movie as it was a more age appropriate movie for the girls. Plus she was another strong female character to show the girls, this time in reasoning and deduction!

This theme was especially fun to do with the girls! We decided to create our own mystery to solve to get them ready for the movie. We decided that Theme dinner was in jeopardy as the remote control had gone missing! The girls had to find the clicker by solving different puzzles that lead to where it was hidden under a locked combination. The girls thought this was super fun and I thought we were super clever!

As our goal for the food was to have everything ”wrapped in a mystery”, we started with Holmes Calzones. If you don’t know what a calzone is, it basically a closed pizza and all the ingredients inside. We had the basics: cheese, pepperoni and olives and put some seasoning on top. The girls enjoyed them very much as it was slightly different than regular pizza.

Even our dessert had a little surprise in it and we managed to bake this while the girls were outside playing so they didn‘t see any of it. We decided to make a chocolate cake with peanut butter buttercream and put some Reese’s Pieces on the inside! We used Tyler’s grandmothers chocolate cake recipe. This dessert the girls licked the plate clean after, so that means it was delicious!

We decided to come up with our own Enola Holmes inspired drink based on the movie. If you have watched the movie, there are a ton of flowers seen throughout. So I wanted to use something to go along and tie into all that. So I did some research and settled on an Elderflower liquor and vodka martini with a grapefruit juice twist. The second drink we tried gin instead of vodka and it too was good. It was so surprisingly good and a drink I will have again! It is also so much better with the gin instead of the vodka! For the girls, I found Hibiscus (to keep with the flower theme) sparkling water and mixed that with the grapefruit juice. The girls really enjoyed this drink too! Plus it looked just like the adult drink.

Hope you had as much fun reading this post as we had watching the girls solve our own mystery!
