A lot of the fun for me is prepping for these themed dinners and seeing the girls faces when it all comes together. This one was especially fun to plan even though the execution wasn’t the way we envisioned. So this week was Space Jam and we watched the old version and the new version out on HBO Max. The new one was good, but I think the old movie is better. I didn’t see how the ”space” came in to play on this one as it was more about an algorithm with the internet, not like the alien theme on the first one. But I still laughed at the Looney Tune parts throughout the movie because who doesn’t love them! Well let’s get onto the actual theme part!

For the main meal, we had more finger foods, which I think goes with watching a basketball game normally. So we had Bacon (Space) Jam Sliders and Pizza Basketball Bites! I have never made bacon jam before and it was actually quite easy! You first cut the bacon up to bites and cook it along with onions. Then you add the brown sugar and some balsamic vinegar along with spices and there you have it, Bacon Jam. This was delicious, but of course the girls weren’t a fan, so that meant more for mom and dad.

Kyrie actually made most of the pizza basketball bites. We had a cake pop pan and used that to bake the balls in. They were stuffed with pepperoni and mozzarella cheese. Once they were out and chilled, we used a edible pen to make the markings. They didn’t turn out as ball like as we wanted, but it was clear they were basketballs. We had a pizza sauce to use for the ‘dunking’. The girls gobbled these up!
Tyler came up with the drink and called it What’s up Doc! Since Bigs Bunny is a main character in this movie- he wanted to give him some recognition! I was very unsure if I would like this drink after I was told what was going to be in it, but I did enjoy it. So if you didn’t guess it knowing that Bugs is a bunny, it was carrot juice! We added rum and some lime sparkling water. Sans the Rum for the girls. Again more tasty than I thought it was going to be!

We knew right away the dessert was going to be round like a basketball, but it took a couple days to settle on the final result. I remember that chocolate chip cookie cakes from Paradise Bakery (RIP) were a big thing for birthday parties in high-school and I never actually had one. So to make up for past times- that’s exactly what we did. One big basketball chocolate chip cookie! To try and bring it into Space Jam theme status, we made the icing orange, pink and purple and combined it for a fun swirl. This was used to outline and create the basketball lines. Very galaxy looking and delicious at the same time, the cookie reminded me of the one from Paradise Bakery.
