We are huge fans of watching the Olympics, (especially the summer Olympics) in our house and we have the TV on watching every sport that they air from morning to night. And when I saw everything, I mean everything. We watch the sports we normally would never watch like rowing, table tennis, shooting, archery, and much, much more. We enjoy it so much, that it makes me sad when it is over and I have to wait another four years. So since we enjoy it as much as we do, and since we didn't have a theme plan for this week, AND the women’s basketball team were playing the French team for the gold on the last day of the Olympics, we decided to this for a theme dinner. Well it was on at 9am, so really it was a theme brunch.

One of the first things that came to mind were crepes, which we love sweet crepes with Nutella. The first time I had a crepe was when I was an adult and while visiting England, not France, but they were fantastic and I was hooked! We do make them almost monthly for a weekend breakfast since they are easy to make. However, I do need to invest in the crepe tool to help make them super thin like they are supposed to be.

Even though I knew baguettes are popular in France, during one day of watching the Olympics, one of the correspondence did a fun story about the baguettes. They mentioned the history of this bread along with actually baking some with a French baker! Watching that story confirmed that we had to have a baguette during our brunch. I had mine with some delicious raspberry jam.

One of the most recognizable items of the Olympics is the five rings. They represent the inhabited continents of the world. The rings contain the colors (blue, black, red, yellow, and green) which are common to almost all flags around the world. To incorporate the rings into our brunch, we had a yummy fruit platter that contained all five colors! Girls loved the fruit and it was perfect for a brunch.

Since this was a brunch themed dinner, we had to have some type of drink with champagne. We had red, white and blue inspired drink that fit well for USA (but also France). It was a layer of cranberry juice, champagne and some blueberries. It worked perfectly for what we were going for. We tried to layer the girls drink with some sprite, but it didn't work as well. It really is about the heaviness of the drink. Oh well!

Thanks for reading and if hope this inspires you if you need a French themed brunch ideas! Enjoy!
