E.T: Out Of This World

Kyrie, our oldest, loves space! For her birthday, which has fallen during this pandemic, she got her own telescope as a gift. So when we read that the comet Neowise was going to be viewable, we thought Space/Alien would be the perfect theme and perfect time to use that telescope. So we had our dinner, introduced them to the movie E.T and later that night, viewed the comet. Tyler and Kyrie only ended up going as Jules fell asleep, but they did see the comet along with some planets.

I really wanted to do this alien autopsy dinner idea that I saw on Pinterest, but Tyler thought it would be too gory and no one would eat it. So instead we ended up on Pizza Planets (a not so subtle nod to another great movie) and everyone made their own pizzas! I got all of their favorite toppings and we even used some food dye to color the cheese to make them even more out of this world. Tyler came up with Space Meatballs and we used the leftover pizza sauce to create flying meteors. He also rearranged the veggies into an alien which turned out super cool!

I wanted to make a bright green drink as this color seemed to represent aliens. So I found a Ecto Cooler-like drink that fit my description. It consisted of blue and green Gatorade and Orange Juice. It was a huge hit with the girls! We turned it into an adult beverage with the addition of some Orange Vodka.

For the dessert, we made Moon Pies and Alien Invasion Pistachio Pies. The girls and I baked the desserts the day before while FaceTiming the Grandmas and they acted like contestants on a baking show (remember I said this family likes baking shows). Both desserts weren’t hard to make and apparently super yummy as the girls kept eating pieces of the Moon Pies when baking them.

As a last minute idea, I had the girls make some alien headbands out of materials we had around the house. Jules also made a picture of an alien and created a spaceship on the LiteBright (sadly I never took a picture of that). These last few additions really brought the theme together and hopefully created some memories for them! Thanks for reading again.
