Monster’s Inc- Monsters at Work

The two things that have been constant in this pandemic are our themed dinners and Disney having a new movie or TV series at a rate where we can’t keep up! So if you haven’t guessed we did another Disney theme night- a MONSTER of a theme night to be exact! Monster’s Inc created a new series that starts right up after the lovable first one. The factory turned from using screams to laughs and it brought back all the great characters…well except for Boo! But we still enjoyed it nonetheless. We enjoyed putting this theme together and the whole family helped make something.

I recently ate at a restaurant that specialized in fun characters for their steamed buns. Not only were they adorable, but they were delicious. I really tried to get them to make either my Monster Inc characters or the colors I wanted, but I would have had to order 200 of them. Since I was feeding four people and that didn’t work out, we decided to make our own, but by that I mean not steamed buns at all, but more taco buns. Only because there is no way I can make steamed buns, so I went more familiar with tacos. We bought premade pizza crust (you could also use crescent rolls) and dyed them the green and blue with purple polka dots we wanted. Kyrie really enjoyed helping with this. We then divided them into 8ths and added taco meat and cheese then closed them up. Voila…we made Monster’s Inc. Taco Buns! Girls got a kick out of them and gobbled them up. Even ate them for leftovers the next day.

What goes with tacos…well Mike Wasoski’s Margaritas of course! We kept this very simple with our Cutwater tequila and just a little color to get it that right shade. The girls had lemonade with a drop of green as well. Jules had fun earlier that day with adding our Mike eye to the glassware! The many perks of having lots of arts and craft supplies lying around.

on Pinterest and thought these would be fun. Instead of using baby jars, I used mason jars I already had. And I will admit, I have never baked directly into Mason Jars before, but it was super easy. I dyed the cake batter the blue and purple and layered it into the jars and baked like the instructions. I used regular buttercream and dyed it purple as well and filled the rest of the jars with the icing. I know when food and dessert are winners, which honestly has been most of these themes because they don’t want to stop eating it.

When we did the themes last year, we had fun adding a carved watermelon into the meal. We thought this would be a fun one to do before the summer is over. Well Tyler out did himself and carved a fantastic Mike Wazoski face! Funniest part, we put it in the fridge until we were ready to eat and Jules went in for something but forgot it was there and it scared so much she screamed. Good thing laughs followed so the Monsters made their quota with that one all around.

I hope you enjoyed this theme and got some good ideas! I know we had fun doing it together. Comment below on what you thought of the new Monster’s Inc. series.
