Living in AZ, we don’t usually pay too much of the holiday Groundhogs Day, mainly because our winter is typically everywhere else’s spring. And let’s be real, I don’t think groundhog seeing his shadow or not makes winter any better. The girls have learned of this holiday from school, but they have never seen the movie Groundhogs Day. This movie is quite funny and the girls picked up on it pretty fast that Bill Murry‘s character would be reliving the day over and over! Plus there is a groundhog in there, so it has some cuteness too it!

So we could have gone two ways with this movie, cutesy or serving the same type of food over and over again. I was going to do different “pies” so it would appear the same, but I didn’t think the girls would get it. So we went cutesy that the girls would enjoy! And these cutesy way I found took a lot of preparation. For the dinner, we decided on groundhog hotdogs in biscuits. Basically a hotdog that had a face constructed out of cheese and olives. It took sooooooo much time and I only ended up making four and the rest were eaten normally. The biscuits were the normal Pillsbury and my girls love these, so it was a success! We completed the dinner with cheesy rice and carrots (don’t groundhogs eat carrots?).

The dessert was took a lot of time to make! But they turned out cutesy enough and Tyler Loved them! The base was a no bake mixture of oats, peanut butter and cocoa. Simple to mix together but a little harder to make the groundhog holes. We didn’t have the cake dowels, so we improvised and found things around the house for the mixture to solidify around. Once they are solid, it was “pasted” together with chocolate frosting to a cookie. Then the groundhog were placed in the mound. The groundhogs were made out of tootsie rolls and whatever I had laying around for the teeth and eyes (mostly sprinkles from various bottles). They looked like groundhogs to me, but not as good as the Pinterest original. You can decide!

Our drink was called Six more weeks of winter. This consisted of rootbeer, Kailua and vanilla vodka. It had that warm feeling that You want from coming in from the snow, but refreshing at the same time. The girls just drank the root beer by itself. They love root beer, so it was a win for them!

Hope you enjoyed reading! Comment below and let me know what you think of our groundhogs.
