Diary of a Wimpy Kid

I know the last theme was centered around our oldest Kyrie, well so does this one. They each were/are reading a book and we said when they finished we would do a themed dinner on that book. Well Kyrie finished hers first, which isn’t a surprise and so here we are doing Diary of a Wimpy Kid! This movie was actually quite enjoyable and we all had some laughs. As Kyrie read this book on her own, I didn’t really know anything about it. But it’s about a young boy in that awkward age of middle school! So as you can imagine not the easiest to do a theme dinner, but Kyrie had to help! I think we nailed it though!

So both in the book and the movie there is a piece of cheese that is left on the ground through the whole school year and becomes moldy. It becomes known as the Cheese Touch when someone touches it and then touched someone else- very similar to cooties when I was that age, they have the cheese touch. So Kyrie came up with Cheese Touch Nachos, which was brilliant! We made our normal salsa chicken for our nachos, but we took some food coloring to turn the cheese green. It completely looked like moldy cheese and the girls were fascinated by it. Plus it’s something I know they would eat, which is always a win.

Our drink was based off the part in the book/movie when a comic by Rowley (one of the kids) gets published in the school newspaper and it uses the tag line Zoo-Wee-Mama. So we created our own Zoo-Wee-Mama drink using frozen watermelon, cherries and sprite (replacing the Sprite with frozen Rose wine for the adults)! It turned into a nice frozen slushy and since it’s really hot at this point, it was very refreshing!

Honestly nothing was coming to us at first for the dessert. But after putting some thought into it for a bit, Kyrie and I thought a Greg Heffly Sundae would be fitting! What middle school kid doesn’t like ice cream! We kept to the black, white and red color theme from the book for the sundaes (Except maybe the sprinkles and skittles)! We got vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, chocolate sauce and topped with a cherry! It was the perfect choice, plus easy and it didn’t involve me having to bake anything.

Overall for not really knowing much about the book/movie, this turned into a fun theme! I loved how the nachos turned out and The Zoo-Wee-Mama drink along with the sundaes! Comment below what you think and if you know of the book series or seen the movie!
