I really do enjoy these theme dinners and the girls look forward to them each week! Once we are fully back into things, like all the extra curricular activities that they did before the pandemic, I hope we can continue to do these weekly! The one thing I love about this is the weekly planning and putting together the ideas and then for it to all come together. There really have only been a few that haven’t been liked and it was usually only a part of the theme. I will say on this one in particular, we didn‘t decide on the theme until the day before. I am super impressed on how this on turned out! There was a movie in our Netflix queue that the girls wanted to watch called Big Foot Family. As we learned later (and watched after) this is an actual sequel to The Son of Bigfoot from a couple years before, but we decided to do this as our theme. We actually started Friday night with Harry and the Henderson’s, which I think was better than the others! The girls enjoyed them all including Harry!

I did do a snack for this theme of Pretzel sticks and a cilantro dip. Hoping that this would be imagined as twigs that Big Foot might eat! Silly I know, but it still was a good snack!

So after perusing Pinterest, there was a blog post by mynameissnickerdoodle.com about Halloween Feet Loaf and I thought we could easily make Big Foot Meatloaf! I used her recipe, but omitted the ketchup that she used for the blood and of course added honey like I usually do to my meatloaf. But it couldn’t have turned out more perfect. It really looked like 2 big hairy Big Feet and the girls were fascinated by them!

We also decided to make a homemade strawberry/blueberry salad! Since we imagined Big Foot in the forest eating foliage. We used Ken’s raspberry vinaigrette and had mixed greens, blueberries, almonds and goat cheese. It was sooo good! We never tried that dressing before, but would recommend it and have it again! Also the goat cheese was what made this salad phenomenal! Definitely restaurant worthy that you would end up paying $10 for.

For this drink we created the Hairy (or Harry) Sasquatch! It consisted of orange juice, peach juice and the rest of the pineapple rum. Again the girls didn’t have the rum, but enjoyed the combination of juices. This is typically our non-alcoholic take for the girls drink, juice, but we always want it to resemble ours. As you can see from Kyrie’s face- it was super enjoyable!

So in hindsite, I think we should have waited about 2 more weeks to do this theme. Only because I baked a Black Forest cake, but fresh cherries were not quite in season. I would have used fresh cherries on top to complete the cake. They are now and we can’t get enough of them! I did use the can cherries for my middle layer of the cake. Regardless, the cake was gobbled up by all and loved the idea of a Black Forest cake for a big foot theme!

Tell me what you think of this theme dinner! I really enjoyed it from beginning to end even without the fresh cherries.
