So we have been meaning to watch the new live action Mulan movie this last year, but never got around to it. So we decided to make it into theme dinner night! I did enjoy the movie, but honestly, missed Mushu from the carton version. I do love the message, especially raising two strong independent girls myself. I want them to know that they can do anything (even defend the kingdom) regardless of their sex. I think they just really liked the fighting as they seem to always want to fake fight each other on the trampoline these days!

Since this movie takes place in China, what better than to have Chinese food for dinner. My girls love spring rolls, so I made sure I had plenty for them tonight. We also had our favorites: orange chicken, teriyaki chicken, chow mein and fried rice. Also last minute the girls found in their closet a dress that Tyler brought back from China years before and they wanted to wear it. I am shocked it actually fit them!

Because we didn’t make the dinner (we had take out), we did make the fortune cookies. Deciding on 36 fortunes was hard and it took forever. We had to make them with the girls in mind too. We had to steal quite a few quotes from our new favorite show Ted Lasso. Making the actual cookie was cool and easy to make. You bake them for about nine minutes and place the fortune in it and then roll it like a taco and then fold it over a glass. Even though, Tyler and I thought they were a little chewy, the girls absolutely loved them and reading the fortunes inside as well.

This was the first drink we did that didn’t have an alcohol addition for the adults. Tea is an important part of the Chinese culture, so we decided on that drink. Just the week prior, Tyler bought a box of different types of tea, so I thought it would be fun to try them. Kyrie stuck to her usual of green tea and Jules to her peppermint tea. I had a wild berry and Tyler a black cherry and they were warm and very tasty!

Thanks for stopping by! Hope you enjoyed tonight’s theme. Tell me if you enjoyed the cartoon or the live action movie of Mulan better?
