Back to back Disney inspired themed dinners, what are we thinking. Well we can thank Disney for their continued awesomeness and the reason as they keep releases shows/movies we want to watch. So this week was the newly released Luca on Disney+. It was overall a very cute movie about adventures with your best friend and being well…you, in a world where you are to hide what you are! Luca is a sea monster who can turn human on land. He and his best friend Alberto want to win a Vespa in a race to travel the world. I will let you watch the movie to see how it turns out! But did I tell you the movie takes place in the Italian Riveria- so that can only mean yummy food! Well read on to see what we did for our themed dinner.

In this movie there is a scene where Luca and Alberto eat pasta Trenette al Pesto while on land. Well that would have been too easy to make, just kidding the girls would have loved this pasta as it’s similar to what we call their “favorite noodles”. I just didn’t do my research all that well. Instead we made a beef ragu, which turned out just as yummy! We did it in the crock pot, which are always my favorite meals to make. We used ziti after I spent too much time deciding what noodle to use for this. But it turned out to be delicious and something the girls both finished. We also can’t eat an Italian dinner without garlic bread, so that was a lively addition.

The drinks for this was all Tyler. The first adult drink was not my favorite so he had to improvise to make a second. This first drink was to try to stay with the Italian theme, and after some research on what were popular Italian drinks we found at the top was Campari. Now for those that haven’t had Campari, it is definitely not a sweet drink (by any means) and is very true to its description, “a bitter drink to induce an appetite.” It is very bitter! So since I didn’t have the needed or aquired taste, Tyler made a second drink that I thought was delicious. The second drink was an offshoot of what he did for the girls drink, a simple Italian soda. I think the one girl was expecting something a little sweeter. The other one slurped it down! He used oatmillk, club soda, a splash of vanilla and grenadine along with some very shaved ice we made with our blender (can’t forget the cherry too). For our adult Italian soda, it was the same with additional Limoncello liquor. It was so refreshing that I had two!

We went with the obvious choice of Gelato on this and for the fact that it was still 110 degrees here in AZ! Plus with the pandemic we haven’t gone to get Gelato at our favorite spot- Frost! So we each choose our own flavors (mine was mint and dark chocolate) and picked it up earlier that day and brought it back home. It hit the spot and was the right decision, plus this place never disappoints!

Comment below if you saw Luca and what your thoughts were. Hope you enjoyed what we did for this themed dinner!
